Brooke - Finding Myself Through Self-Love and Wigs

The Aftermath of Abuse
I was just 20 years old when I survived an abusive relationship that left emotional and physical wounds. The trauma caused permanent hair loss that never grew back. Hair might seem superficial to some, but for me, it was part of my identity. Losing it made me feel exposed, broken, and like a shadow of the person I used to be.
Beginning My Journey
I was determined to rebuild myself, but confidence doesn’t come easily after being constantly torn down. I was tired of being made fun of, tired of feeling like I wasn’t enough. That’s when I turned to wigs.
Let me tell you that decision changed everything.
The Turning Point
At first, it was incredibly emotional and honestly, a little embarrassing. I remember thinking, “Why me? Why am I the one who has to wear a wig? And not just any wig—an ‘old lady wig’?” Because back then, that’s all we really saw. Wigs were for grandmas, not 20-year-old women trying to find themselves again.
But then my grandma took me to a salon, and I got my first real wig—long, full hair. I looked in the mirror and for the first time in a long time… I saw me. I cried. Like, full-on, ugly cried in the salon chair. It was such a beautiful, bittersweet moment. Supportive, helpful, sad, healing—all at once.
From that day forward, everything changed.
Wigs gave me my confidence back. I could look in the mirror and feel beautiful. Strong. Alive. It wasn’t just about the hair—it was about reclaiming something that was taken from me. I felt like me again.
And now? I’ve been wearing wigs for 35 years, and they have come such a long way! No more "old lady wigs"—today’s wigs are stylish, natural-looking, and honestly, just fun. I get to reinvent myself whenever I want. Brunette today? Sure. Blonde tomorrow? Why not? Long waves, cute bobs, edgy cuts—I get to play, explore, and enjoy the freedom of expression.
People are often surprised when I tell them I wear a wig. They look so natural, no one even knows! And here's the thing: wigs aren’t just for people with hair loss. If you want to switch up your style without damaging your bio hair, a wig is a total game-changer. You can have any look, any time.

- A proper fit is everything. Knowing your head size and getting a snug, comfy wig makes all the difference.
-
Sea salt spray, wig spray, a little heat from your hands, and water are your best styling friends.
- And yes, fingertips help a lot when you’re fluffing or fixing things up.

Hope, Love, and Joy
Now, wearing a wig is just part of my daily routine. I take them off at night, pop one on in the morning, and go about my day. I usually wear the same one for a while, but I love switching it up and trying new styles. Now my hair loss story is one of strength, growth, and self-love.
If you’re thinking about trying a wig, or if you are going through something hard, just know, you are not alone. Confidence does not come overnight, but sometimes, looking in the mirror and seeing a version of yourself that makes you smile is a powerful first step.
Because you are beautiful, and you made it.
