HOW TO - KEEP A WIG FROM SLIPPING

HOW TO - KEEP A WIG FROM SLIPPING

Does your wig slide like butter on a skillet? Does every head movement you make turn your wig over like a pancake? Yet, a size down is too tight? It could be you need a wig grip!

Our “STAY PUT WIG GRIP,” by JON RENAU is, “created to secure and prevent your wig or headwear from slipping.” The elastic velvet fabric with thin adjustable backing creates a comfortable fit, while the lace top area makes a seamless section for your wig’s part. Check out its features below!

Wig Grip

How do I properly use a wig grip?

Follow these instructions below, and your wig will grip-like- syrup on a placemat in no time!

Step 1: Place the wig grip around the back circumference of your head. It does not need to meet your hairline exactly. Instead, push the grip slightly behind the hairline. Be sure to keep the lace at the top of your head. Then ensure the grip meets up with your wig’s part. As shown in the picture below.

Step 2: Adjust the the elastic band at the back. Be sure it fits securely and comfortably to your liking.

Step 3: Again, be sure to keep the lace at the top of your head. Then place your wig on your head, over the wig grip, and adjust the wig until it's settled in place.

Step 4: Once your wig is on and settled it's time start the day. One pancake at a time!

For more information about wig grips or any other wig related questions please email us at support@wigstudio1.com. We are here to help!

Cheers,

Ramona Mellison

“On Being a Blonde Detective”

“On Being a Blonde Detective”

The world of blondes can seem as convoluted as splitting the atom. Now I’m no Einstein but I can certainly read a color chart. But if you think that’s going to be much assistance in decoding the numerology of your next blonde crowning glory it might be easier to figure out how to be in two places at the same time.

Let’s say for the sake of argument we look at the color by Henry Margu in 10/613 GR. Seems pretty straightforward, 10 is a Medium Golden Brown, 613 is French Vanilla Blonde (sounds more like ice cream but okay). GR stands for gradient dark root, light tips. Upon further research, I have discovered the following: “Light Ash Blonde with Platinum Blonde Highlights and Medium brown roots”. Really? Seems to me you can sooner judge a book by its cover than select my next wig based on the above description. If there is Platinum in there why didn’t I get the memo? Because my dear partners in crime, where is the number 101 mentioned which is the official number assigned to said color “Platinum”? A secret code perhaps? One only a “color detective” can decipher? And if so, where is that Agatha Christie when you need her? As for the number 613, is that not a pale natural gold blonde? Or is that applicable only to another brand’s color chart?

Moving on to John Renau’s Palm Springs Blonde, FS17/101S18. Ah, there is the 101 Platinum, I knew we would find it somewhere except this was not in the description, which I was as mystified as anyone to read: Lt. Ash Blonde with Pure White Natural Bold Highlights Shaded with Dark Natural Ash Blonde. (No mention of Platinum) but okay, so much for math, and if nothing else let it be BOLD. Is Bold a color or an attitude? Or is that the attitude that you have when you wear the color?

As we further investigate this color conglomeration we know that FS translates into Fashion Syrup making me hungry already and 17 is a Medium Ash Blonde (Shaded meaning kinda rooted) signified by an “S” and 18 Dark Ash Blonde.

Assuming I am not alone in my confusion I have decided to provide my only key to help unlock this mystery. Clues are provided in the form of visuals; color comparison photos and also a video. Sometimes it seems playing by the numbers works as well in choosing a blonde as it does at the Blackjack table at Caesar’s Palace in Vegas.

I hope you enjoyed reading and viewing my take on this challenge, this blog is composed for educational and entertainment purposes.

Do it Yourself Heat Friendly - Michele Pearl

Do it Yourself Heat Friendly Care Restoration in Ten Steps

You will need: A wide-tooth comb, a rat tail comb, a styrofoam, or a canvas head. A steamer of some sort, flat iron with an adjustable temperature control, and a hot air brush. T pins or hat pins. Jon Renau's HD Smooth Detangler and distilled water. Optional: Silicone spray. Not Optional: a lot of patience.

  1. Using a wide-tooth comb gently comb through your heat-friendly wig with extra attention to the ends in conjunction with misting the hair with Jon Renau's HD Smooth Detangling spray. This product assists in the process of hydrating the heat-friendly fibers.
  2. Carefully turn your wig inside facing out; handling with care.
  3. Place your wig on a styrofoam or a canvas head. T pins may be used to secure the wig. Pins can be placed one on each ear tab and also one pin affixed to the nape area of your wig (avoid any contact with the lace front or monofilament areas, best to steer clear of the cap area).
  4. Begin the steaming process as demonstrated in the video, concentrating on the ends where most likely frizz and tangling are concentrated. (Consider wearing gloves as the steam gets very hot).
  5. Next: turn the wig with the outside facing you to continue the steaming process.
  6. While still damp from the steam, and if not sufficiently damp, mist additionally with distilled water. Next: use the flat iron approximately 270 degrees Fahrenheit or less for one pass through as you section the wig in small sections using the end of your rat-tail comb or fingers.
  7. A second pass through with the flat iron may be indicated.
  8. Optional: Silicone spray/product may be lightly applied to the ends, however, rub between your ungloved palms to first heat up the silicone. A dime-size amount should suffice. Simply Stylin, Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum, or any silicone type product that is safe for synthetic hair may be used.
  9. Next: Utilize a hot air brush to customize and style hair as desired. This is very helpful for straight styles for a soft, sleek, and natural-looking result.
  10. Optional: Mesh hair rollers may also be used when hair is still warm from using the hot air brush if desired. Secure with clips or T-pins allowing the fibers to cool down which ensures definition, then disengage the roller when completely cool. See video for technique.

I hope this blog with accompanying video demystifies the process of restoring your heat friendly/heat defiant alternative hair to its former glory. If I can do it, you can too. There are several ways to achieve this end result, however, this is what has worked for me.

Straight Press HF 18” by BelleTress in the color Roca Margarita Blonde volunteered for this video. This style and many other beautiful heat friendly/heat defiant alternative hair units are available at Wig Studio 1.

Hope to see you all in upcoming blogs and in the private Wig Studio 1 Wig Topper and Support Group on Facebook.

Best,

Michele Pearl
