Open Cap Wigs

Open cap wigs are also known as “capless” wigs because of their light weight and airy, cool feel. Open cap wig construction provides a secure, comfortable fit by combining very light, close-fitting cap materials with a well-ventilated design. These styles offer many benefits for all wig wearers.

Open cap wig construction is often combined with other cap construction features, such as lace fronts, monofilament parts and crowns, and hand-tied portions of the wig.

For example, Nita, Hillary & Bowie offer a lace front with open construction throughout the wig cap.

Open cap wigs are lower maintenance wigs that require less re-styling on a daily basis, due to the lighter weight materials used and volumized wefts of hair.

 Lace Front Wigs

In a lace front wig, the front hairline is made of a nearly invisible mesh trim, generally 1/8-inch to 1.5 inch in width, to which the hairs of the wig are individually tied. This lace trim will typically extend across the entire front hairline of the wig from ear to ear or temple to temple. The main benefit of a lace front wig is the very convincing realism simulated by the individually hand-tied hairs across the lace front hairline. This allows for the hair on the lace front hairline to move freely in any direction, just like follicular hair, thus appearing very natural.

Some lace front wigs are designated as having Swiss Lace or French Lace. The difference between these two types of lace will vary depending on the wig manufacturer, but Swiss Lace is generally thinner and more delicate than French Lace.

Full Lace Wigs are wigs that are 100% hand-tied wigs that use a cap completely constructed of fine mesh and may designate the mesh cap material as being French Lace.

Lace fronts can be found on wigs of any cap construction. Typically lace fronts are combined with cap features like monofilament crowns (mono tops) or monofilament parts (mono parts). Lace fronts also can be found on open cap (capless) wigs, human hair wigs, Remy human hair wigs and hand-tied wigs.

With any hair type or cap combination, lace front wigs are perfect for those who want to create an off-the-face or swept back style or a style without bangs.

 Monofilament Wigs

Monofilament wigs offer a unique combination of versatility and durability. A monofilament wig creates the illusion of natural hair growth and allows for multi-directional styling while also providing a cool, smooth feel against the scalp for long-lasting comfort.

Monofilament is a sheer mesh made of strong synthetic fiber. In wigs, monofilament is used as a translucent segment – the part area or the entire crown – of a wig cap. Hairs are individually hand-tied to the monofilament segment of the cap, so each hair can swivel freely in any direction, creating natural hair movement. This mobility also allows the hair to be parted and styled in any direction.

Sometimes referred to as a Mono Top, a translucent monofilament crown simulates natural hair growth from the scalp. Since each hand-tied hair is anchored to an individual spot on the monofilament, and since the monofilament is so sheer, it looks like follicular growth, even close up.

In addition to the very natural appearance, seamless monofilament feels smoother against the scalp than an open wefted crown or a traditional lace-backed base.

In the case of a double monofilament crown, a second layer of monofilament buffers the layer to which hair is knotted, so it feels altogether silky against the scalp.  In general, wigs designated as Monofilament Wigs pair Mono Tops with Open Cap construction on the sides and nape, which provides cooling ventilation.

Monofilament wigs may feature hand-tied lace front hairlines, human hair or Remy human hair. Mono tops also may be included in completely hand-tied human hair wigs. In this combination, the nape and sides of the wig will be composed of hairs that have been hand-tied to a seamless, soft lace net cap, rather than the elasticized bands and wefts of open cap styles.

Hand Tied Wigs

Hand tied human hair wigs are the most luxurious and natural wigs available. Using lustrous human hair and believable synthetic, they recreate the airy body and glossy movement of natural hair. They offer styling flexibility and the most realistic look possible. Furthermore, the mesh caps used in completely hand-tied wigs give the appearance of all-over natural hair growth, even when you're up close.

To achieve a supremely natural appearance, each and every hair is individually tied by hand to a soft mesh cap. Neither mechanical stitching nor wefts of hair are used. The process relies on artisan craftsmanship. It usually takes around three days for an experienced wig maker to complete one hand tied wig.

The effect of this amazing construction method is the simulation of overall natural hair growth. The individual hairs knotted to the mesh cap look like individual hairs growing from the scalp. Just like follicular hairs, hand tied hairs can swivel freely in every direction. This mobility means the hair can be parted and styled in any direction. In addition, since human hair can be styled with heat, hand-tied human hair wigs provide the same unlimited versatility as natural hair.

The mesh cap design of hand tied human hair wigs also offers a supremely comfortable interior cap feel. Because a hand-tied wig cap lacks wefts or structural seams, it offers the softest interior surface for those who have experienced complete hair loss or medical hair loss from chemotherapy. The mesh cap also provides cooling ventilation in warm climates.

The hand-tied process can be applied to portions of otherwise machine wefted wigs, such as open cap wigs with hand tied lace fronts or hand tied monofilament crowns. Lace fronts – hairlines consisting of hairs tied to a transparent fine mesh border – are found on many types of wigs. Monofilament is another type of fine mesh found in wig caps, often used to create the transparent base for the crown or part areas. In both these uses, the hand tied hairs on the mesh base simulate the appearance of very natural hair growth.

Traditional Caps

The Classic Collection is the original product line Jon Renau introduced to the wig industry in 1985. Classic cap construction features a full lace-lined crown, as in traditional wigs.

Wefting is attached to an elasticized lace base, providing a secure fit. A velvety strip along the hairline and ear tabs provides extra comfort.

Evolution Collection Wigs

The Evolution Wig cap is designed with a polyurethane perimeter. The perimeter looks very natural, maintains the wig cap's fit and can be worn with or without adhesive. Silicone patched placed ergonomically within the wig cap interior (at the front, crown, nape and sides) ensure non-slip performance, without impeding scalp ventilation.

A delicate Swiss Lace front and stretchable double-lace cap section create the appearance of natural follicular growth. Just like all of our premium wig styles, the Evolution Collection uses 100% Remy human hair.
